To decline politely, she set a condition: “I will marry you, but you must build one thousand temples in one night as a wedding gift.” Bandung Bondowoso accepted the challenge. With the help of demon spirits, he began constructing the temples. As midnight approached, he was close to completing the task. Roro Jonggrang, aware of this, thought, “What shall I do? Bandung Bondowoso is smarter than I, and I will lose.” Suddenly, she devised a plan. She awakened all the women in the palace and instructed them to create the sounds of grinding rice to trick the rooster into believing it was dawn. Frustrated by his failure to finish the final temple, Bandung Bondowoso exclaimed, “The Princess has deceived me!” In his anger, he cursed Roro Jonggrang, saying, “You have been cheated.
